I have been looking around to manage, organize playlists from a huge collection of musics sleeping in my external hard disk. Foobar comes in to rescue to add music files not just from local system but also from the LAN. At the time of writing this post, Foobar2000 is available only for Windows. Download Foobar2000
Customize UI :
The application is fully customizable including the behaviour of buttons, themes, search mode, autosave search playlist etc. I have customized to look like winamp player
Managing Library :
I have my musics in a NAS running on Linux Kernel (Pogoplug). Foobar200 imported the entire collection (just the metadata) of the files within few minutes. Even it monitors the changes in the folders and captures the data. Once imported you can easily search the music by artist, title, genre or album.
Plugins for Geeks :
Plugins adds the real power to this application. There are around 50+ plugins available. I like the SQL Tree console which helps to query the Foobar2000 database using the regular SQL syntax.
Migrating your foobar settings :
Foobar stores all the music metadata, preferences and plugins in the user app data folder. If you want to migrate your foobar data to a new pc just copy all the contents in this folder and replace in the target system.
Playaround with this application and you are definitely going to enjoy the musics by customizing as you want.
