You external disk might be got corrupted when you are ejecting the device while its in use. Usually desktop PC’s will warn you when you eject them manually .
I faced this issue everytime I used the External HD with the Pogoplug as I simply powered off instead of ejecting them completely. See my other post on “Eject all drives in pogoplug”
Possible Errors :
Drive not accessible
Drive not found
Invalid path. Disk Corrupted or Format
NTFS Drives shows as RAW in Disk Management
Solutions to Recover and Fix :
1. The native Solution : CHKDSK : to Repair
The CHKDSK should be ran from the command line in Administrator mode. Because sometimes the DISK Management Utility will not show the Tools to run CHKDSK for a corrupted partitions.
CHKDSK [Corrupted Drive]: /r
This will first identify the bad sectors and repair them automatically. This might take some time. For me it took 3 hours to repair a 500 GB of Disk which contains around 100 GB of data
2. Third Party Solution : Easus Data Recovery : To recover Data from Corrupted Partition
This tool is free to recover 2GB of data. For more you need to upgrade to commercial version. This tool checks the Corrupted partition and list all the files and you can recover the selected data you needed.
