Being an IOS user for the last 4 years, I really don’t want to hack or jailbreak my IOS devices as most of the features are sufficient for me as a normal user. But sometimes I feel irritated when I want to depend upon iTunes in PC/MAC for just loading some few songs to the device. The problem with iTunes is every time you switch between PC’s to sync music or photos it will erase the existing items in the device. At any point of time you can sync with only one library in your PC. As a rescue of this a tool called iFunBox which made my life easier for transferring songs, videos, photos and installing apps. You can also export your apps/files in the IOS device to the PC. You don’t need to jailbreak your device to use iFunBox.
Jailbreaking :
The word jailbreak sounds to be abnormal. It’s something’s like opening the lock of the cage so that the bird can fly and experience the unlimited space. The IOS device is a wonderful magic hardware device and for some reasons Apple has restricted some features and disabled some of the trivial functionality in respect to providing consistent user experience. Jailbreaking comes in to give freedom to the device and exhibit the hidden potential in the device through software.
And Recently I was forced to jailbreak my iPhone due to a volume slider issue. When the dock connector is corroded it will assume that some accessory has been connected and it disables the volume speaker. I tried couple of ways to clean the dock and also blow hot air to the dock. Finally, came across a solution to remove a file in the IOS filesystem which is responsible for detecting the dock accessory. It’s not easy to explore the iPhone file system by simply connecting a USB cable to your PC. So, here the steps I followed to bring back the volume slider again.
1. Jailbreaking with evasi0n
2.Installed iFile App from Cydia. Cydia is an App Store for jailbroken devices.
3.Backed up the com.apple.iapd.plist file and Removed the file com.apple.iapd.plist from system/library/launchdaemons
4.Rebooted the device
5.Volume Slider speaker phone started working for me
6.After 1 week, I restored that plist file back to the same path. Now still my volume slider works great :))
Some other Interesting Apps in Cydia
Activator – Configure custom triggers based on touch, taps etc
iFile – IOS file system explorer. Has http webserver inbuilt. Can be used in cellular mode also
AppSync – To deploy your ios app created using MAC/xcode
And much more..
Disclaimer : This post doesn’t recommend to jailbreak and this intended purely for educational purpose. Jailbreaking is at owners risk and this might make the device unusable/bricked.
